The Wraith Spider is one of three different high-level Spiders encountered in the original Baldur's Gate, the other two being the Phase Spider and Sword Spider.
Description
They are fairly rare, usually only found within the depths of forests, and are distinguishable from their brethren by way of a yellow body with dark-purple legs.
Despite the name "wraith" they are classified as monsters, not undead.
Gameplay
Like most spiders, they are immune to webs yet lack the gradual poison that most other spiders are known for.
It is immune to normal weapons, charm, confusion, hold, sleep, and many other effects and spells, making it quite a challenge for low-level parties (see Special "Effects" in the InfoBox, right).
Besides doing 1d6 piercing damage on a successful attack, the target must save vs. spell to negate a Strength drain of 5 points. Each drain is temporary; 300 seconds (i.e., 5 minutes). However, the effect is cumulative, such that the target will instantly die if strength is drained below 1 point.
