The Greater Command is spoken and may affect enemies to fall prone in a state of deep sleep for 1 round per level of the caster.

Description

As with the 1st-level spell Command, this spell enables the priest to command other creatures to "die" (sleep), except that the effects of this spell last 1 round per level of the caster. At the end of the round, the creature(s) awaken and are unharmed. The area of effect is similar to that of a Stinking Cloud or a Fireball.

Gameplay

The caster selects a single enemy creature to aim this spell toward - and releases a sparkling projectile that unerringly speeds to the designated creature with a brief 3D graphic effect rendering on the both the target and the caster.

After uttering the fast-casting command word, the enemy target, and any other enemies in the area of effect are exposed to the spell's effects.

Each creature is allowed a Saving throw versus Spell to resist the command.

If the save is failed, the creature is rendered Unconscious for a specific duration as determined by the spell caster's priest level, ranging from 1 turn to 2 turns - each creature affected will be named on the combat screen along with a text reading "Unconscious".

While unconscious, the creature falls prone to the ground and is in a Helpless state- in fact, even damaging the victim won't revive/waken them up.

This spell can potentially be blocked by Magic resistance.

The initial target of the spell can employ a Spell protections type defense, such as Minor Spell Deflection to halt it.

Any creature in the area of effect protected by Spell Immunity: Enchantment will not be affected by the Greater Command.

The spell uses an internal spell Power level of 5, and thus certain creatures can't be affected by it, such as a Lich or Rakshasa.

Creatures protected from Sleep/Unconsciousness will shrug this spell off.

This spell allows Elf and Half-elf creatures to potentially resist this spell using their racial resistance to sleep - and will be automatically checked when the spell exposure occurs.

Trivia

The Greater Command spell doesn't exist in the Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset - this spell is a creation by the developers for the BG video game.

As with the first level spell Command, this spell enables the priest to command other creatures to lie down and take no action (sleep), but the effects of this spell last up to 10 rounds, and every enemy within 15 feet of the target is affected (save vs. spell at -4 negates). At the start of each round after the first, those affected get another save to attempt to break free from the spell. When the spell duration expires, any creatures still sleeping will awaken.

Note: This spell is usable only by Cleric/Paladin classes.
Note:Damaging creatures asleep will awaken them.
