The Color Spray spell causes a fan-shaped spray of colors to spring forth from the caster's hand, rendering low level creatures unconscious for 5 rounds. They will not wake up upon receiving damage.
Description
| “ | Upon casting this spell, the wizard causes a vivid, fan-shaped spray of clashing colors to spring forth from his/her hand. 1d6 creatures within the area are affected in order of increasing distance from the wizard. All creatures in the area of effect that have 4 Hit Dice or less must make a successful Saving Throw or be rendered unconscious for 5 rounds. | ” |
Gameplay
The caster selects a designated point on the area map to aim this spell toward, using the targeting cursor to denote the spot on the map, and clicks it.
Upon completion of the spell the caster is frozen for 1 second, as a multicolored fan shaped spray projectile launches, that spreads out 90 degrees in front of the caster with a 25 feet length.
Any creatures within the colored spray with 4 Hit Dice or less may be affected by the spell, and a saving throw versus Spell is allowed to resist it. Contrary to the spell's description of 1d6 creatures affected, that isn't implemented in the game and is just an AD&D descriptor for literary flourish from the Pen and Paper game.
Creatures with 5 HD will show a text display reading "Too high of level for Color Spray".
Failing the save results in the victim being made Unconscious for five rounds - they will be made Helpless and are not revived/awakened by taking damage.
This spell can potentially be blocked by Magic resistance or negated completely by Spell Immunity: Alteration or a Minor Globe of Invulnerability.
Note that Elf and Half-elf creatures do not get their innate resistance to sleep against this spell's unconsciousness effect.
This spell is flagged as a "Hostile" attack, and will cause neutral creatures to turn hostile, as well as others in the vicinity.
Due to the spell's HD limitation, the utility of the spell is greatly diminished after Baldur's Gate I. See the Trivia section for how the Pen and Paper AD&D spell version was designed.

Trivia
The Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition Color Spray Wizard spell can cause unconsciousness, blindness or stun targets depending on the caster's level and the target's level, saving throws versus this spell are also different than the game's version. Additionally, there is no target hit dice threshold where the spell becomes unable to affect a target, it can be used against any HD level creature. See the External links for further information.

Casting Time: 1
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: Spell negates
Upon casting this spell, the wizard causes a vivid, fan-shaped spray of clashing colors to spring forth from his hand. The spray is 15 feet in length and spread out in a horizontal arc of about 60 degrees in front of the wizard. The spell’s effects depend upon the caster’s level - creatures with Hit Dice/levels less than or equal to the caster are slowed for 5 rounds, those with Hit Dice/levels one or two greater than the wizard are blinded for 3 rounds, and all others are confused for 1 round. Creatures with more than 22 Hit Dice/levels will have to save only against the confusion effect, regardless of the caster’s level.
